WEST DONEGAL AREA SHORE/SEA ANGLING - BUNINVER POINT & GLASHAGH POINT

Rock platforms between to the two points good for pollack, mackerel, coalfish and wrasse. Foul ground. Best fished when calm. Avoid in bad weather.

Public slipway to launch boats from to access the sandy ground in Inishfree Bay. Good area for ray, dabs, plaice and dogfish.

Shore angling for large conger eel. Float fishing here can produce mullet, small pollack, coalfish and wrasse at high tide.

Spinning from the harbour wall for mackerel, pollack and coalfish. Casting out over sandy ground produces flounder, dabs, and occasional codling. Float fishing inside the harbour can be good for mullet and small coalfish. Bottom fishing close to the pier after dark can result in large conger eel.

In the channel, during the first two hours of the flooding tide and the first hour of the falling tide, bottom fishing from rocks over sand produces tope, ray and dogfish on sandeel and mackerel baits. Flounder and plaice caught on worm baits at high water.

Flat rock platforms to reach water of 15 metres. Best fished in clam conditions as is dangerous in rough weather. Spinning for pollack and coalfish. Use heavier lures such as koster or toby. Bottom fishing on very foul ground for conger, rockling, wrasse and dogfish

Charter boat available to book here as well as launching facilities for boats. Check locally for navigation advice. Access to grounds offering a vast array of species including blue shark, spurdog and cod. Float fishing for mullet from the harbour. Conger can be fished after dark.

Large basalt rock west of the harbour good location for spinning for mackerel, launce, and pollack. Float fishing here for wrasse and small coalfish. Two hours either side of high tide optimum. Bottom fishing for dogfish, plaice, dabs and flounder.

Very rough ground. Excellent rock fishing. Best location just inside the south west corner. Bottom fishing for conger, dogfish and large wrasse. Spinning large pollack, mackerel in summer and coalfish.
