DONEGAL BAY AREA SHORE/SEA ANGLING - GLEN BAY

Good shore angling from shallower rocks on the southern side. Spinning for mackerel, Pollack and seatrout. Distance casting for flounder, dabs and ray.

Spinning from the rocks here produces mackerel, pollack and occasional garfish. Bottom fishing for huss and conger. Float fishing for wrasse. Distance casting for dogfish and dabs.

Good launching and parking facilities here. A number of charter vessels operate from here with access to rich and varied fishing grounds. Fishing from the pier mullet is rewarding here. Night fishing for conger. Note that the pier is high here.

DONEGAL BAY AREA SHORE/SEA ANGLING - THE GUNWELL

Access to depths of approx 20 metres deep from here. Ballan, conger, and corkwing wrasse can be caught here close to the rocks. Spinning for for mackerel, pollack, coalfish, launce, garfish and seatrout. Cast about 20 metres to reach sandy areas to take ray, dab, plaice and flounder.

Fishing from rock to the north of the lighthouse onto sand for plaice, dabs and ray. Mackerel strips, sandeel and lugworm arethe optimal baits here.

Care should be taken at all times on these rocks particularly during south west gales. The rocks below the lighthouse are excellent for spinning for pollack, mackerel and coalfish. Bottom fishing for large wrasse conger.

Small cove .Fishing over rough ground on the south side for pollack, coalfish, and large conger. High water fishing near the beach for produce flounder dabs and dogfish.

Fishing on the flooding tide here can produce tope with June and July as the optimum months using mackerel strips. Small slipway giving launch access to the channel for ray and tope.

Launch facilities giving access to grounds producing tope, dogfish and flounders. Monkfish can be taken from the channel. Mullet plentiful in the harbour during summer.

Night fishing only in summer due to crowds. Good surf fishing for large sea bass and flounder. Sandeel optimum bait. Night fishing for dabs, turbot, ray and dogfish.

Shore fishing at high water from the pier for ballan and corkwing wrasse pollack, coalfish, mackerel, small conger, dogfish, dab and plaice. Good boat fishing area but tidal. Charter boat operating from pier.

Spinning for seatrout on the flooding tide. Flounders plentiful in the channel tend to be on the small side. Launching facilities at the quay in Ballyshannon for fishing in the estuary or at Ballyshannon Bar in calm conditions to fish for ray, dabs, gurnards and plaice.

Fish from the pier at high water for pollack, wrasse and occasional conger. Lauching facilities here at the higher end of the tide for access to the inner reaches of Donegal Bay for tope, ray, dogfish, pollack, codling, gurnards and whiting.

Mixture of sand and boulder good for producing some codling, dogfish, flounder and dabs. Good spot in autumn. The first two hours of the rising tide optimum using sandeel, lugworm and crab.
